I can't believe it will be May tomorrow! With time flying by and our master bath remodel at a crawl this week due to me being sick we have little to report. So for the last day of April our master bathroom lighting has gone from this...
..then this...
a little work...
Voila! To this lovely little blue lamp. Yes we went BLUE!
I love it and just can't wait for the rest of the bathroom to be done. The light fixture is so my taste, its bold, bohemian and handmade and slightly vintage looking. I couldn't be happier with it!
I found this little cutie Here, it is hand blown from Mexico, and the cobalt blue glass is seeded from the blowing process, which gives it so much more vintage charm then something cookie cutter you would find from a large hardware store.

Ginger broke her tibia!
Ginger (my parents kitten) at only 5 months she has her first major injury. My mom and dad have been letting her outside to play for a bit at a time during the day, and she has been loving it. Well this morning while alone for only a few minutes Ginger must have gotten twisted in some tree branches and broke her tibia, a clean fracture that the Vet said should heal in a month.
Poor little girl, she can barely move with this huge pink cast on her entire leg. She thinks it a toy and is having quite the time biting it!

Okay we got the Vanity in
It took longer than anticipated but we got the vanity in, the plumbing is connected through the back and she is screwed to the wall tight. There were a few last minute changes in the way the cabinet would rest on the floor, we added legs and took the toe panel off and other reasons involved were mostly distractions away from our remodel, like weddings and reunions.
We also managed to reinstall the toilet and hook it back up to the water, so we have a functioning toilet back in the bathroom, Yeah us!

Friday is here
Well its Friday and we have a busy weekend ahead of us. Tonight is my 10 year high school reunion dinner, tomorrow our good friends are getting married, and we hope to start tiling by tomorrow.
Here is a cool shot I took, I noticed these little tiny mushroom type growths on an ornamental mulberry tree. They go all the way up this branch and I just loved the way they looked against the green lichen and moss.

Floors, Check
Sorry about the lousy phone photos, but here is the new floor. It looks great and its so nice to finally have a floor after 3 months of concrete. Now we can move in the vanity, start to tile, and put the toilet back in.
Oh, I ordered the light fixture which means I actually made a decision on the color, but I'm not telling till we put it in! ;)

Too many colors to choose?
We can't decide which color lamp to choose for our master bath! If you can help please do, here is the lamp. It's a hand blown glass lamp with iron made in Mexico, and it matches our hardware on the vanity.
It comes in clear, amber, brown, aqua, cobalt blue, and green.
The colors that we are thinking go best with our bathroom are green, aqua, cobalt blue, amber, or clear.
Here is our sink, and the deco tile is the same. The rest of the tile is a buttery off white.
Here is another shot of the sink and you can see the color of the wood floor that will be put in, this warm brown. The walls are freshly painted in bright white to pop the "off white" tile.
Here is our vanity and knobs.
Here is a fab photo I found for inspiration, I know it's a kitchen but I love the look of these blue glass lights.

And more lamps I love that led me to this difficult choice...

Wood floor in a bathroom!?!
Well we are scheduled to have our wood floor put in tomorrow morning as long as the floor guys don't get behind on their jobs. We need to prime and paint tonight after work so that's all done before they come in with our beautiful floor.
I haven't had much to share the last few days, so here are some shots of wood floors in master bathrooms.
(See I'm not the only crazy one who thinks wood can be great on the floor of a bathroom!)

Lady Bank's
Look at the size of it! This yellow Lady Bank's rose has grown completely over a tree. This is the first time we have seen it in bloom, and it is huge! It's the size of a small planet, and it's pretty spectacular.
We are busy redoing the texture on every wall in the bathroom, and the ceiling. Hopefully we'll be done by tomorrow night.

Honey Bees
We had a bit of commotion around here yesterday when a swarm of bees surrounded my parents backyard roses. The flying swarm took about 30 minutes to form into this tight strawberry shaped bee swarm. I am very familiar with bees as my dad has been an apiarist for many years and I have read much on the subject. In the spring when bee colonies get too large they create a virgin queen and split the hive up to make a new hive.
So we knew why they were doing this, but catching them is another story.
My dad quickly got on his beekeeper suit and got to work. Rory and I were a bit more timid to approach them. He scooped up the bees in a box and put them in a fresh new hive baited with honey and moved them to a safe area on his property. Lets hope they like their new home.

Some texture to our walls
We have spent the last two nights working on the bathroom walls. While Rory worked till 9:15 last night putting up the last of the hardiebacker around the tub, I tried my hand at applying a texture to the walls. The current walls are a sprayed on finish with a lot of little bumps, and we have added so many new pieces of drywall it would be really hard to match that finish. So I am going to redo the whole bathrooms wall texture.
Here is a close up of my handy work.
This is my first time doing this, so I hope it looks okay. I am doing a hand troweled technique. We think that really goes with the Mexican theme we are doing in the renovation. It's not easy I'll tell you that, but its kind of fun at the same time, like frosting a big cake.
You can see in this photo the area to the right is where I have applied the wall texture all over. Its still drying in this photo.
Rory is still at work fiberglass taping all the seams and holes, and then mudding over them.

What a Visit we had!
We just spent the last three days with our nephew James Cooper, Rory's sister Jamie and their dad. It was wonderful to have that much time with him, as we really haven't seen much of him since they live so far away. He is so big now and such a cutie.
When they left tonight I asked for a hug and he gave me one with a huge smile on his face, then he hugged Rory and then gave me 4 more in a row! I think he likes me, and it's so cute that he calls me Uncle Rory too!
It was hard to see them go tonight, we were spoiled after the last few days. Hopefully we will get to see him soon.
Here is a video of James with his Birthday cake, He'll be 2 on Monday but tonight was our last night with him. Sorry about the sideways shot at first, I quickly realized the mistake and fixed it.

The Entryway has a new look
Our entry way has had this look since we moved in, a beautiful but small antique mahogany card table and Jefé our watchful velvet painting that keeps a scarred eye on things for us.
Before
Until now, I found that great entryway piece that I posted about a few days ago and have moved some art work around so my oil painting is now the first thing you see when you walk in!
After
If you are wondering what happened to our very important painting of Jefé, he has moved above the couch where he is a little less in your face, if that's actually possible.
Today Rory plumbed in the water lines and sautered everything together. We put the faucet in place to test everything and it works!
I can see it now with a tile deck and all finished, soon... soon.
