DIY, and garage sale finds.

We found some great buys at the Saturday morning garage sales this weekend. Rory and I and the "Mama One"-Kim all went together and had a great time. We found so good stuff to at bargains. This cute chicken dish is one of my favorites, and the candelabra Kim bought for us looks great. I also got a great big basket, a beautiful blue vase/pot and a perfect sturdier umbrella holder that we needed badly.
After Kim left to go home Rory and I continued with some fixing up and projects. We picked up a can of spray paint earlier in a fun blue to add some bright color to a few things. I found this old potting bench over at the other yard that I have been meaning to put to use. We went to Rite Aid in town and they happened to have outdoor seat cushions for 90% off and we scored these two for $3.00. I sewed them together, added some ties out of rope and here is our new bench.

I also used the paint to color this 70's looking wood shelf that was in our 1/2 bath off the kitchen, and Rite Aid had all fall stuff for 50% off so the chicken and the cider box decor was another couple dollars. I think they look really cute, and now there is something in that bathroom!

Upholstered Chairs

The chairs to our dinning room set and bar stools are now padded and upholstered with leather and brass tacks. We got the set from a discount place for a smokin deal so the customized upholstry was do-able. They are really beautiful and look much more finished. Oh and they are way more comfortable to sit on. Good job local Upholstery people! We are stoked.

Viking Range is Here!

Oh man I have been waiting a long time for this. The Viking 36" wide, commercial depth range in cobalt blue has finally arrived. It took about 7 weeks to get it, but man was it worth it. It came yesterday and this morning I cooked on it for the first time. It has some serious BTU's the flame get super high, but it also has a great simmer feature on each of the four burners. The grill in the center is pretty much awesome, and we can't wait to use it. The oven fits two cookie sheets in it long ways, side by side on each rack. I am in love with it, and the color. Check it out, next to the cobalt blue teapot from England my mom found and scored at an estate sale this morning with me.

Tile Choices

Here are our choices for the tile back splash in our kitchen. We have set up a design pattern for the tile that is a bit fancy, but I think it will look great, and bright!

Wedding gifts, Check!

We have been bringing over all of our new & unused wedding gifts that were given almost a year ago, and we finished today. They have been stored at my parents home since October 11th 2008, as we had no room to store or use them before in the rental house. It has been so much fun reopening all the beautiful gifts and actually having a home to put them in. Everything has a place!
One of my favorite things to unpack and display are the 12 place settings of Denby dishes that were given by a number of family guests. First found by my mom, while her and I were looking for registry items last May, she saw 4 sets of the dishes in the Santa Barbara store and bought them for Rory and I promptly, as she knew the quality of the brand. They are so beautiful, and just our style. I put them in our cabinets with the glass doors so I can see them everyday, even though they are only for special occasions.

New bed, mattress and bedding.

We got our new king bed, and we LOVE it! It looks great in the room and really fills it in. I had thought that I bought everything for the bedding, but as soon as the mattress was delivered I quickly realized I forgot to order a mattress pad in a king size. I called my mom to see if she had an extra I could borrow, and mom to the rescue, she had an extra one stored in a spare room. I quickly made the bed with our freshly washed 800 thread count sheets and we were in business. We had a hard time waking up the next morning, as it's a little too comfortable. Also our guest room has a purpose, as we moved our queen bed in there. Rory has been making progress on the light switches and plugs around the house. The new white switches are so nice and sleek, they look fantastic.

Coming along.

The place is really coming along. I have been busy trying to decorate/fill in the voids, and its feeling more and more like a home. I recently picked up some dining furniture and bar stools, also some drapes that were on sale for our bedroom and bath. I spend part of our day off sewing black out material to the drapes. They are a linen material and were letting in too much light for our room. Rory really wanted black out drapes so I bought the material and attempted it. It is quite thick and almost plastic like, but I managed. They work great, but it did change the look of the drapes a lot. They had a lighter look about them and now they are much heavier looking drapes. The material is similar to burlap, and I think it looks great even with the black out. We are going for the rustic decor look, so it goes.

Internet is on!

We finally have internet, I came home and peeked into the extra room and saw our wireless router glowing green. We have been here almost two weeks with out the use of it, so it's good to have it back. We don't have any house progress to report except that Momma Kim came over for her first stay for an evening. She transformed our backyard substantially in one day! Pulling all the dead horse tail made a difference, she perfectly manicured it, as it was way out of control.
Soon we will have our new bed, its set to be delivered next week, so we will have a real guest room by then.
