Paint paint and more paint.

Well we have been painting for 3 days straight and today we took the time after work to go to Home Depot for more paint! We ran out of white and needed a few other things as well. Trips to the hardware store are becoming more frequent, and necessary in our lives all of a sudden. The yellow walls are looking so wonderful, the color is warm and fitting with the flooring. We are replacing all the old fashioned baffle recessed can light trims with more flush modern ones and they look great. I'll post pictures when we are done. Today we picked out the carpet and can't wait for that to be installed. It's Camelot brand, the style is "Matisse" and the color is "Easel". I just love the artistic connotations.
Here is the carpet pattern and color, click on it to see the slight pattern.

We bought a house!

We bought a home with a second unit. The property is on one acre and has a main home with three bedrooms, two and a half bath, two car garage, a pool and spa, built in '75. The second unit has two bedrooms, one bath, no garage but it's own private drive way that is very long and a huge back yard, it was converted from a garage to a second unit in 2001 so its in really good shape. We plan to do a lot of fixing up to the main home, and have already begun on the painting, we plan to go with the Mexican theme the second has going on. We should finish in the next day or two with the paint, and then we start all the rest. We are so excited to have a great project like this of our own, and we can call it home. We should be moved in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Second unit.

We have acid stained the concrete counter, and sealed it once. A few more coats of sealant and it is done! I think it looks great in person, a lot better then I thought it would. I have always been a natural stone fan, granite is beautiful and has a great finish. But the concrete has a warmer feel to it, it's rustic and earthy, it almost looks like clay brick from an old mission.

Concrete Counter

We have begun the first attempt at a concrete top surface. We are planning on using it for the buffet we purchased and cleaned up last month.

Today we got all the necessary tools, and materials. Rory built the form out of melamine, with some assistance from me, and supervision from the "Foreman", Baxter. (Note, he's in photo's behind puppy gate)

We mixed up the concrete, and put it in the form, and added metal mesh for strength, and finished filling the form.

It took a few times troweling the top surface over a few hours while it hardened, and now we wait for it to dry.

Then Rory will remove it from the form, and sand it smooth.
The counter will take a while to be completed, apparently we need to wait 28 days before applying the stain. Then there is a sealant. we will post the progress, and hopeful success of our first concrete counter top.

Baby Jackrabbit

Well it's fun this time of year in the garden, we are eating all the fruits and vegetable we grow over here. While Rory was checking out the onions, he heard a rustling in the tomato plants. He noticed a little animal awkwardly moving around in one. He brought it over to show us quickly and we just couldn't take our eyes off of him. A very small and extremely cute baby jackrabbit. I have lived here 17 years and we have seen a ton of jackrabbits but never a baby.
He is so cute and so small, I picked him up and pet him and he was very calm. We watched him hop around clumsily and kept an eye out for him while I called the local wild life animal rescue. They said at his size he would not survive on his own so I dropped the little guy off with the pros, and they will release him back here when he is old enough.
We think the baby was separated from his mom because of the field next door was plowed last week. Although it breaks my heart he was taken from his mom, I know that he will be okay. Baby Jackrabbits are very hard to care for but the rescue place is familiar and will do fine.
